3 Days

This three day tour successfully mixes a number of elements of the north into a complete condensed experience – superb roads running through stunning scenery, great cuisine, ethnic culture, beautiful temples and fun evenings.

Day 1

Sees us leave Chiang Mai at approx 9:30 after kitting you out and allocating you a bike (normally a Suzuki Vstrom 650 or a Honda CB500X depending on preference and length of legs!)

Today we’ll take in some really backwoods roads skirting past an elephant camp and a beautiful river before stopping for a good lunch of local food in a market town then heading up another stunning road to our overnight stop at an ethnic hotel with links to the local Lahu Hilltribe community.

Day 2

Sees us heading towards the Burmese border on a very remote road complete with army checkpoints and a view of the rolling hills of Myanmar. We’ll halt briefly at a very picturesque temple with stunning views over the town of Thaton and the flood plain of the Kok river before heading eastwards on a series of roads with a mix of delicious fast sweepers and tighter more technical stuff.

We stop for a great lunch at Doi Mae Salong which is a Chinese influenced village populated by descendents of the KMT Chinese anti-communist army. If we’re lucky we will see people from both Akha and Lisu hilltribes in traditional costume.

After lunch we’ll descend off the mountain and pay a visit to a Karen Long Neck village before heading into the city of Chiang Rai for the night.

Day 3

Sees a later start due to a) possible hangovers and general delicateness and b) the fact that we visit Wat Rong Khun. It is a tourist hot spot but a must see so we plan to arrive there at 11:15 – 11:30 and have a bit of a wander around the complex. It closes for lunch at 12:00 so now is the time to get the camera out and get a pic without a Chinese tourist in it taking a bloody selfie!

After the temple visit and some lunch we’ll finish the day by heading back to Chiang Mai via roads less travelled and aim to be back at the shop by 16:30. This tour is “all inclusive” meaning that everything apart from evening meals and alcohol is supplied. Bikes, riding jacket & helmet, fuel, insurance, accommodation for 2 nights, breakfast, lunch and any admission fees. This is a tour suitable for anyone with a reasonable amount of “big bike” experience and pillions are welcome. We don’t ride extremely fast and definitely not recklessly but you must be competent and comfortable with speeds averaging between 80 – 120kph.
